Hair Loss Treatment with mesotherapy and microneedling

Did you know that you have approximately 100,000 hair strands on your head? Hair keeps your head warm, boosts one’s esteem, gives you a personalized look, and works directly to enhance your general appearance. Given the importance of hair, it’s pretty sensible for one to worry when they experience hair loss.

Hair loss in both men and women can happen for numerous reasons. For women, hair loss can be caused by hormone issues such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (POS). Hair loss is also common following pregnancy. An imbalance in androgenic hormones, specifically testosterone, causes male pattern baldness.

For both men and women, hair loss can be triggered by other health issues. Examples include an underactive thyroid, anemia, or an overactive immune system.

There are also psychological reasons for hair loss. Hair loss can occur following extreme trauma. In addition, there is a condition called Trichotillomania, where sufferers compulsively pull their hair out and find it very difficult to stop.

Hair loss, also known as alopecia, is a relatively common condition that affects at least 80% of men and approximately 50% of women in their lifetime. This treatable and manageable condition may be temporary or permanent and may also be of gradual or abrupt onset.

When hair loss happens, it follows a process known as Miniaturization. Over time hair follicles start to shrink, so that they can no longer produce healthy hair. Instead, the hair strands produced are weaker, and eventually, the hair follicle dies and stops producing hair altogether. When this happens, bald patches start to appear.

There are 3 known phases of the hair growth cycle which include;

  • Anagen-this is the growth phase that lasts for 3-10 years. It’s marked by protrusion of new hair from the scalp and an increased cell division that takes place in one’s hair bulbs and dermal papilla. During the anagen phase, it’s crucial that you nourish your scalp with hair nutrients to promote an adequate subcutaneous blood supply. Inadequate blood and nutrient supply may lead to loss of hair.
  • Catagen- this is a transitional phase that lasts for 2-3 weeks. It’s marked by the cessation of both cell division and the production of melanin by melanocytes.
  • Telogen-this is the resting phase which takes around 3-4 months. During this phase, your hair is shed from your scalp.

Whatever the cause, several treatments can help generate hair regrowth. These include Mesotherapy and Microneedling, which can be used in conjunction with each other. However, it’s important to remember that hair regrowth takes time. The Telogen Phase of hair growth takes three months. The hair bulb needs to get stronger and healthier before the Telogen phase of hair growth can start.

During The Telogen phase of hair growth, club hairs rest in the root whilst the new hair starts to grow underneath it. It goes without saying that when having hair loss treatment, you need to be patient.

What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy uses injections containing selected vitamins, minerals, enzymes, hormones, and plant extracts. One of the key vitamins used is Biotin, (otherwise known as Vitamin H), primarily because it aids cell growth. Fine needles are inserted into the middle layer (mesoderm) of the skin. Mesotherapy works by correcting underlying issues that can cause skin damage.

A minimum of 10 sessions is usually needed to create the conditions in the scalp needed to stimulate hair growth. Whilst patients should expect to see some improvement within three months, the full effect of the treatment may take up to six months.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling, otherwise known as Collagen Induction Therapy is a procedure that involves pricking the skin with tiny, sterilized needles. The tiny wounds caused by the needle pricks stimulate your skin to produce more collagen and elastin. In terms of stimulating hair growth, Microneedling helps induce stem cells in the hair follicles, which then leads to hair growth. In addition, Microneedling can help with the absorption of other products used to treat hair loss, for example, Rogaine and platelet-rich plasma.

The effects of Microneedling can usually start to be seen after 3 months, with the full effects being visible after 6 months.

All in all, if you are suffering from hair loss, it’s important to remember that all hope isn’t lost, there are effective treatments available. However, you should speak to a health professional before starting treatment, particularly if you suffer from a skin condition such as eczema or acne.

Key takeaway

Several factors cause hair loss in both men and women. This condition can be reversed by the application of micro-needling and mesotherapy hair loss treatment techniques which both take around 3-6 months for the actual results to be seen.
These 2 hair loss treatment methods are both effective ways of treating hair loss. They may be performed on an individual conjunctly or independently. It’s vital that you consult your doctor before having a hair loss treatment procedure performed on you.
